String Quartet No. 2 (2017)
PREMIERE August 1, 2018 Interlochen, MI ENSEMBLE string quartet DURATION 5.5' |
PROGRAM NOTES
String Quartet No. 2 was written as part of a project at Texas Tech University in which three composers each wrote a string quartet influenced in some way by Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 10, Op. 74. For my contribution to the program, I chose to emulate the fourth movement by writing a theme and variations. In addition, while some of the musical material, especially the metric content, is not Beethoven-like at all, some of the textures of the piece are reminiscent of Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 10.
