PROGRAM NOTES
“Before the Throne” is an interpretation of John’s vision of the throne of God as recorded in the book of Revelation in the Holy Bible. The narrator represents John describing what he sees, including the heavenly chorus of angels and elders, portrayed by the choir. The piece chronicles a moment in the story of salvation when Christ triumphs over death and is given authority to open the book of seven seals. A sense of chaos, representing the inability of mankind to comprehend the presence of God, manifests itself in the aleatoric sections of the piece.
